Simple Past Tense: Pengertian, Jenis, Pola, dan Contoh

Simple past tense adalah bentuk waktu yang digunakan untuk menerangkan peristiwa atau perbuatan yang dilakukan pada saat tertentu di waktu lampau dalam bentuk sederhana.

Mari Kita Mengenal Pola Kalimat Verbal dan Nominal serta Pembagiannya dalam Simple Past Tense

A. Pola Kalimat Verbal

  1. Pola kalimat verbal positif sebagai berikut:
Subjek + past tense (V2)
Contoh:
– She studied English last night.
– They cleaned the classroom yesterday.

2. Pola kalimat verbal negatif sebagai berikut:

Subjek + did + not + infinitive (V1)
Contoh:
– She did not study English last night.
– They did not clean the classroom yesterday.

3. Pola kalimat verbal tanya sebagai berikut:

Did + subjek + infinitive (V1) + ?
Contoh:
– Did she study English last night? (answered: yes, she did/no, she didn’t).
– Did they clean the classroom yesterday? (answered: yes, they did/no, they didn’t).

B. Pola Kalimat Nominal

1. Pola kalimat nominal positif sebagai berikut:

Subjek + was/were + non verb
Note: non verb bisa berupa noun (kata benda), adjective (kata sifat), atau adverb (kata keterangan).

Contoh:
– I was ill yesterday.
– They were happy last night.

2. Pola kalimat nominal negatif sebagai berikut:

Subjek + was/were + not + non verb
Contoh:
– I was not ill yesterday.
– They were not happy last night.

3. Pola kalimat nominal tanya sebagai berikut:

Was/Were + subjek + non verb + ?
Contoh:
– Was I ill yesterday? (answered: yes, you were/no, you weren’t).
– Were they happy last night? (answered: yes, they were/no, they weren’t).
